Issue 1, January 2018

We’ve been optimizing and refining our processes for a long time, from coating to fixturing to how we clean parts for the chamber. More recently, we’ve been giving the same treatment to our website, newsletter, and this year our booth for Photonics West (come see us at #234!). Adding a bit more “polish” is what this issue’s all about – from getting the most out of coating diamond-turned optics to making sure every coating is up to par for our customers. After all, you’re the real gems!

A Diamond Turned Optic in the Rough

Diamond turned optics are no longer just for prototypes. In fact, we coat quite a few medium-to-large volume substrates manufactured using single-point diamond turning (SPDT). In this technote, we’ll explore the advantages of SPDT, our coating capabilities in this area, and the unique benefits we offer to transition seamlessly from quick turn prototyping of SPDT optics to volume production.

Capabilities: Metrology

It’s not enough to just coat optics well. We also need to be able to test and measure them properly to ensure each part shipped meets our customers’ expectations. This is no small feat for reflectivity below 1%, which is why our metrology lab is equipped with highly accurate spectrophotometers capable of measuring in transmission and reflection from 185 nm to 50 µm. We also have our own environmental test chambers for validating reliability to MIL-SPEC standards – just another way we stand behind our coatings.
